Chan Romero (born July 7, 1941) is a Chicano rock and roll singer and songwriter. He is best known for his 1959 hit song, "Hippy Hippy Shake," which has since become a classic rock and roll anthem. Romero was born in Billings, Montana and raised in Southern California. He started playing guitar at a young age and began performing in local clubs as a teenager. He wrote "Hippy Hippy Shake" when he was just 17 years old and recorded it with his band, the Jaguars. The song was a hit in the US and the UK and has been covered by numerous other artists over the years. Despite the success of "Hippy Hippy Shake," Romero never achieved the same level of fame as some of his contemporaries and eventually left the music industry. He returned to performing in the 1990s and has since released several albums of new material. Today, Romero is regarded as an influential figure in the history of rock and roll and continues to perform and record music.
